SETTING DESIGN OBJECTIVES - WEEK 1

On the initial Web Strategy Call, we found that there were 4 main challenges to tackle on the re-design:

1) Current website had too much information, not user-friendly and not mobile-friendly. People find the flow hard to go through.

2) Current brand identity is too muted and corporate. As a Latina business owner, Becca wanted to add Brazilian elements from her heritage.

3) The information, copywriting & offering was outdated and not on-brand.

4) The current website is hard to edit for Becca, a business owner who needs to add photos & updates constantly.

TARGET MARKET ANALYSIS - WEEK 2

On this stage, we found that there were 3 main target markets BB Events cater to: 1) nonprofits, 2) corporations hosting social impact events, and 3) community organizations/governmental agencies. With those markets differing greatly in their needs, we decided to design a website that has three separate pages for them.

REFRESHING BRAND IDENTITY - WEEK 3-4

The client wanted a refreshed brand identity that’s bolder & more vibrant, in the form of a new color palette, font & shapes. The moodboard above is inspired by Recife, Brazil, where the founder’s heritage is from, alongside its buildings and Portuguese tiles. The client immediately loved the shapes & new colors.

NEW ACCESSIBLE COLOR PALETTE - WEEK 5

After testing the previous color palette’s contrast and finding that it’s inaccessible for people with vision disabilities, I came up with new muted colors that are softer for the web, to integrate them with the older ones. They were also tested with a contrast-checking software.

TESTING FONT ACCESSIBILITY - WEEK 5

I came up with different fonts that are more decorative and bolder. As the font “Analogue” is more decorative and less commonly used than most fonts, an accessibility test was done, like pictured above. This was to see if any letters are either identical, mirror each other, or not discernible. Once it’s passed the test, the client loved the font and I paired it with Inter, a sans serif font to create a balanced set of fonts.

DESIGNING LAYOUT CONCPETS - WEEK 6-7

Before the full layout design, 3 website concepts of mockup home pages were made. The first layout (top) was more minimal, muted & elegant, inspired by hotels’ websites. The second layout (bottom) was more artsy and whimsical. Ultimately, the client chose the third (current) layout.

CREATING INCLUSIVE WEB SOLUTIONS - WEEK 8-11

INCLUSIVE ALT TEXTS

We added alt texts that were very descriptive to help visually disabled people, that’s also gender-neutral to not assume and/or possibly discriminate people’s gender expressions.

ACCESSIBLE BACK-END SOLUTIONS

Developing for accessibility: adding back-end solutions like descriptive URL names,  ARIA landmarks, heading levels, etc. and constantly testing on web accessibility tools.

INCLUSIVE IMAGERY

Additionally, we consciously made sure the images of people chosen were represented diversity well.

WEB DEVELOPMENT & RESULTS - WEEK 8-11

The result was a 12-page WordPress website including 2 blog & case study templates that are mobile-friendly, a refreshed brand identity & search engine optimized copywriting reflects BB Events’ brand and resonates with their target market.

A thorough 40-page guidebook was also made for the founder, her marketing team, and stakeholders to relieve the pain point of not being able to update & edit the website easily.

"The moment I met Daniel I felt his energy, creativity and passion for design. One of the things that impressed me most outside his natural talent were his processes and procedures for managing the project.

He was clear, concise and transparent with expectations of working together. He was extremely thoughtful and detailed about getting to know me and my business. He completely transformed my site into both a beautiful and functional product that told my brand, story, and values seamlessly."
